Justin Idleburg, a 47-year-old businessman and former St. Louis aldermanic candidate, has admitted to committing Social Security disability fraud in St. Louis, Missouri. From January 2019 to May 2024, Idleburg falsely claimed to be unable to work, while actually running multiple businesses and receiving grants. He fraudulently received a total of $51,388.50 in benefits. Idleburg’s scheme involved exaggerating his mental health symptoms and failing to report his business activities and income to the Social Security Administration (SSA).
Idleburg’s disability determination was reviewed in 2018 and 2024, during which he reported mental health symptoms and difficulty getting along with others. However, despite these claims, he was actively involved in his community, running for the St. Louis Board of Alderman in 2019 and starting two businesses. He also participated in multiple media interviews and spoke to lawmakers in Jefferson City regarding cultural bias in the energy sector.
Idleburg’s businesses included Idleburg Consultants, LLC, which he formed in March 2019, and the Cabanne District Community Development Corporation, which he registered in August 2023. He applied for and received $67,000 in grants for his business, depositing the funds into undisclosed bank accounts. Idleburg’s actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the Social Security system and the taxpayers who fund it.
Idleburg is scheduled to be sentenced on November 5 and faces up to 10 years in prison for his crime. The case highlights the importance of integrity and honesty in the Social Security system, and the consequences of abusing the system for personal gain.
