Michael Lamont Miller, Illegal Firearm Possession, Missouri 2024

Michael Lamont Miller, Sr., a nine-time convicted felon from St. Louis, Mo., was dealt a 110-month federal prison sentence for illegal firearm possession. The 44-year-old pleaded guilty to the charge after police discovered a loaded Springfield-Armory XDS 9mm semi-automatic firearm in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

The discovery came as a shock to authorities, who also found illegal substances near the firearm. Miller admitted to law enforcement that a gun was present, marking another blow to Missouri’s efforts to combat gun violence.

Judge Douglas Harpool ordered that Miller’s federal sentence would follow his state sentences, ensuring he serves consecutive terms. Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Carney prosecuted the case, while multiple agencies investigated, including the ATF and the Branson Police Department.

This conviction is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence across the nation. Miller’s sentence reflects a commitment to making neighborhoods safer for everyone.

Miller’s sentence sends a clear message that illegal firearm possession will not be tolerated in St. Louis, or anywhere else in Missouri.

The case underscores the importance of PSN in fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, as well as supporting organizations working to prevent violence before it happens.
