Stark County Man Indicted on Child Pornography Charges
A Stark County man has been indicted on charges of receiving and possessing child pornography.
Philip M. Popa, Jr., 33, of Beach City, Ohio, was indicted on one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.
According to the indictment, Popa received computer files containing images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct between May 30, 2017, and July 7, 2018.
The indictment also charges that on or about July 17, 2018, Popa possessed an HP laptop computer that contained child pornography.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Carol M. Skutnik, with the investigation led by TFO Ryan D. Anschutz of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation Task Force.
An indictment is merely an accusation, and the defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Popa’s sentence, if convicted, will be determined by the court after reviewing factors unique to the case, including his prior criminal record, his role in the offense, and the characteristics of the violation. The statutory maximum sentence will not be exceeded, and in most cases, it will be less than the maximum.
