South Dakota Man and Woman Indicted for Burglary, Assault, and Firearm Charges

A federal grand jury has indicted Stephen Fallis, 29, and Sativa Looking Cloud, 20, for First Degree Burglary, Assault With a Dangerous Weapon, and Using and Carrying a Firearm During and in Relation to a Crime of Violence.

According to the indictment, the crimes occurred on February 16, 2022 in Mellette County. Fallis and Looking Cloud allegedly unlawfully entered and remained in a residence and assaulted two victims with handguns.

The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to life in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, five years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

Fallis and Looking Cloud appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on March 10, 2022 and pled not guilty to the indictment.

The investigation is being conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson is prosecuting the case.

Fallis and Looking Cloud were remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial. A trial date has been set for April 26, 2022.
