Bank Heist Brings 20 Years for New Orleans Man
In a shocking turn of events, Stephen J. Scott, 31, of New Orleans, Louisiana, pleaded guilty to committing the robbery of the First American Bank & Trust at 1800 Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Metairie, Louisiana, on April 9, 2018.
The brazen crime, which took place in broad daylight, saw Scott enter the bank, pass a demand note to the teller, and imply that he was in possession of a weapon. The teller, fearing for their safety, handed over $3,400 to Scott, who then fled the location.
Thanks to the swift action of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, Scott’s identity was confirmed through a combination of fingerprint matching and surveillance footage analysis.
According to U.S. Attorney Peter G. Strasser, the FBI’s Violent Crime Task Force and officers with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office worked tirelessly to bring Scott to justice.
Scott is facing a maximum sentence of 20 years in the Bureau of Prisons, a $250,000 fine, up to three years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100. The Court will sentence Scott on January 31, 2019.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Myles Ranier is handling the prosecution, ensuring that Scott is held accountable for his actions.
