Steven M. Zachman, a Belleville resident and active duty airman stationed at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, has been embroiled in a dark and disturbing crime. In a shocking turn of events, Zachman has pleaded guilty to a one-count felony information charging that he knowingly transported obscene matters in interstate commerce.
According to court documents, between August and November 2013, Zachman used the photosharing and social networking website, Tumblr.com, to upload digital images and videos to the Internet. These graphic images and videos depicted bestiality, as well as approximately 20 images of prepubescent minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct.
Zachman’s actions were not taken lightly, and he now faces a maximum penalty of 5 years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine, and 3 years supervised release. His sentencing is scheduled for July 24, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. before the Honorable David R. Herndon, United States District Judge.
The case was investigated by the United States Air Force, Office of Special Investigations, with Assistant United States Attorney Nathan D. Stump assigned to the case.
