Steven Roshee Powell, Sex Trafficking of Children, Alabama 2025
A federal grand jury has indicted Steven Roshee Powell, also known as ‘Champ G,’ 35, of Birmingham, Alabama, on charges of sex trafficking of children and attempted sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion.
The indictment alleges that Powell engaged in these crimes between October 2, 2025, and October 29, 2025, in Jefferson County, Alabama. The investigation is ongoing, and Powell’s guilt has yet to be proven in court.
According to the indictment, Powell used force, fraud, or coercion to engage in sex trafficking of children. The charges carry significant penalties, and Powell’s case will be prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel S. McBrayer.
Sex trafficking is a growing epidemic, and the federal government is taking steps to combat it. Project Safe Childhood is a nationwide initiative launched by the government in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The initiative marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet and to identify and rescue victims.
Law enforcement agencies are urging the public to report any suspected cases of child exploitation. Reports can be filed with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) or online at www.cybertipline.org.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations along with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Powell’s indictment is a reminder of the importance of protecting children from exploitation and abuse.
An indictment only contains charges, and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
