Local Man Sentenced for Conspiracy to Maintain Drug-Involved Premises

A federal court in Missoula, Montana, handed down a sentence to Steven Sann, a 58-year-old resident of Lolo, for his role in a large-scale marijuana operation.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Sann was found guilty of conspiracy to maintain drug-involved premises. The operation, known as ‘The Wye,’ was a massive marijuana grow facility located in Missoula, capable of producing at least 30 pounds of marijuana a month.

The facility, which was sold to another individual for approximately $300,000, was seized by authorities. Sann’s involvement in the operation was uncovered through a cooperative effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Missoula High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force.

On January 26, 2013, Sann appeared before U.S. District Judge Dana L. Christensen for sentencing. He was sentenced to 4 years of probation, a $100 special assessment, and the forfeiture of a warehouse.

Under federal sentencing guidelines, Sann will likely serve all of the time imposed by the court. He may, however, be eligible for a sentence reduction of up to 15% for good behavior.

The investigation and subsequent sentencing of Sann serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat large-scale marijuana operations in Montana.
