STOCKTON, CA – Rayshawn Williams, 20, of Stockton, is facing a lengthy federal prison sentence after pleading guilty today to running guns on the streets, including two illegally modified Glock pistols capable of fully automatic fire. The admission comes after a months-long investigation by federal and local law enforcement.
According to court documents unsealed today, Williams peddled a total of ten firearms to a confidential informant between May and July of this year. The transactions, conducted in cash, weren’t about sport shooting; these were illegal street deals fueling potential violence. But it was the presence of two Glock pistols fitted with “switches” – devices that transform semi-automatic weapons into machine guns – that ratchets up the severity of the charges.
U.S. Attorney Eric Grant didn’t mince words, stating the case demonstrates a commitment to stemming the flow of illegal weapons. “These aren’t just guns,” a source within the U.S. Attorney’s office told Grimy Times. “These are weapons designed for maximum damage, and this guy was putting them into the hands of who knows who.”
The investigation, a joint effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Stockton Police Department’s Crime Gun Intelligence Center, clearly targeted Williams’ operation. The ATF has been particularly aggressive in cracking down on the proliferation of “switches,” which are increasingly turning up at crime scenes nationwide. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jason Hitt and Zulkar Khan are handling the prosecution, signaling the seriousness with which the Department of Justice views the case.
Williams is scheduled to appear before U.S. District Judge John A. Mendez on December 9, 2025, for sentencing. He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison for each of the machine gun charges, a five-year maximum on the firearms trafficking charge, and a potential $250,000 fine. However, the actual sentence will be determined by Judge Mendez, taking into account federal sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.
This case falls under the umbrella of Operation Take Back America, a broad federal initiative aimed at dismantling transnational criminal organizations and combating violent crime. The operation seeks to streamline resources from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhoods. While the stated goals of the operation are wide-ranging, focusing on immigration and cartels, the Williams case underscores a key component: getting guns off the streets and holding those responsible accountable.
