Yoirlan Tome Rojas Sentenced to 4+ Years for Credit Card Scam, Stor…

Yoirlan Tome Rojas, a 34-year-old from Storm Lake, Iowa, has been handed down a harsh federal sentence for his involvement in a credit card scam. Sentenced on February 27, 2015, Rojas faces over four years behind bars after being found guilty of multiple frauds.

The jury convicted him on October 23, 2014, on two counts of using a counterfeit access device, one count of possession of fifteen or more counterfeit access devices, one count of money laundering, and two counts of aggravated identity theft. Rojas’s scheme involved the manufacturing of credit cards using stolen data to make purchases at Walmart and other local businesses.

He used these fraudulent cards to buy gift cards, which he then redeemed for legitimate goods. At least two of the cards were linked to victims who reported unauthorized use of their credit lines. Sioux City’s United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett presided over the sentencing, imposing a 51-month prison term on Rojas. A $600 special assessment was also levied, and he will be required to serve a two-year term of supervised release following his imprisonment.

There is no possibility of parole in the federal system as Rojas awaits transportation to a federal prison under the custody of the United States Marshal’s Service. Assistant United States Attorney Jamie Bowers prosecuted the case, while the Storm Lake Iowa Police Department and the United States Secret Service conducted the investigation.
