Felon Caught with Guns After Chase
A Suitland, Maryland man is facing up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Anthony Dwayne White, 29, admitted to possessing handguns on two separate occasions, including one incident where he attempted to flee from police.
The first instance occurred on September 24, 2020, when law enforcement officers conducted a search of White’s residence in District Heights, Maryland. During the search, officers recovered a .40 caliber handgun, a magazine containing 14 rounds of ammunition, and other contraband. White admitted to owning the handgun, despite being a convicted felon.
The second incident took place on January 30, 2021, in Washington D.C. White was stopped by a Metropolitan Police Department officer for a traffic violation, during which the officer discovered an active arrest warrant related to the 2020 offense. When White attempted to flee on foot, an officer observed a handgun in his jacket pocket, which was later identified as a .45 caliber pistol loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition.
Acting United States Attorney Jonathan F. Lenzner commended the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Baltimore, the Metropolitan Police Department (D.C. MPD), and the Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) for their work in the investigation.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Erin B. Pulice, Brendan Woods, and Brian W. Lynch. U.S. District Judge Paul W. Grimm has scheduled sentencing for November 17, 2021, at 2:30 p.m.
White faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for each count, followed by up to three years of supervised release. The guilty plea marks a significant blow to the defendant, who has been convicted of a previous crime and has now admitted to violating the terms of his probation.
