MOBILE, AL – A Summerdale woman was handed down a 37-month prison term for orchestrating a bank fraud conspiracy and committing aggravated identity theft. Jamie Danell Putman, 40, pleaded guilty to her involvement in the scheme that spanned from March 2022 to July 2023.
According to court documents, Putman stole personal information and used it to open unauthorized accounts, deposit fraudulent checks, and conduct other fraudulent activities. She was caught by Foley police after they discovered she had stolen mail, identification documents, and blank business checks. Putman confessed during a recorded interview that she had been part of a crew stealing mail and altering checks throughout Baldwin County.
In April 2022, an identity-theft victim reported that her driver’s license, social security number, and other identifiers were used to open an account fraudulently. Days later, Putman was apprehended with the stolen items in possession.
After her release from custody, Putman continued her fraudulent activities by opening a T-Mobile Money bank account and making additional deposits using counterfeited checks with stolen identities. She was arrested once again in July 2023, during which police found several stolen credits, checks, identity documents, and other mail.
In addition to the prison sentence, Putman will serve a five-year term of supervised release, undergo drug testing and treatment, receive mental health evaluation and treatment, and face credit restrictions. The court also ordered her to pay $300 in victim restitution and $200 in special assessments. No fine was imposed.
The investigation into Putman’s crimes was conducted by the United States Postal Inspection Service, Foley Police Department, Summerdale Police Department, and Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Roller prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
