Arizona Pediatrician Sentenced for Child Pornography Distribution

A shocking case of corruption has rocked the medical community in Arizona. Emilio Luna, a 44-year-old pediatrician from Sun City, has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for distributing child pornography.

According to a recent U.S. District Court ruling, Luna pleaded guilty to two counts of distribution of child pornography during a time when he was practicing medicine. He was also required to register as a sex offender and prohibited from working as a pediatrician.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

The investigation in this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with the prosecution handled by Melissa Karlen and Sharon Sexton, Assistant U.S. Attorneys for the District of Arizona, Phoenix.

The sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of child sex crimes. The public is urged to remain vigilant in reporting any suspicious activity that may indicate child exploitation.
