A Swanzey man is headed to federal prison after stealing 18 firearms from a licensed dealer in Winchester, New Hampshire.
Khale Guillou, 20, of Swanzey, was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison and 3 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to one count of theft of firearms from a federal firearms licensee (FFL), announced Acting U.S. Attorney Jay McCormack.
The theft occurred on the night of July 6, 2024, when Guillou broke into Trader John’s Gun Shop and stole 17 handguns and one rifle.
Just nine days later, Guillou’s car was involved in a shooting in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. Law enforcement recovered three of the stolen firearms from the trunk of Guillou’s car and spent shell casings from inside the vehicle.
Three additional stolen firearms were recovered from Guillou’s home, two of which were also taken from Trader John’s Gun Shop.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives led the investigation, with the Keene, Swanzey, Winchester, and Tewksbury Police Departments providing valuable assistance.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Anna Krasinski prosecuted the case.
U.S. District Court Judge Samantha Elliot handed down the sentence, which is part of the Department of Justice’s Operation Take Back America initiative.
This nationwide effort aims to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.
Acting U.S. Attorney Jay McCormack noted the dangerous link between gun thefts and violent crime, stating that the sentence sends a message that those who fuel gun violence will be held accountable.
ATF’s Acting SAC Scott Riordan echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and industry partners to prevent firearms trafficking and diversion.
The case serves as a reminder of the consequences of gun theft and the efforts of law enforcement to keep communities safe.
