Swanzey Man Sentenced for Child Pornography

CONCORD – A 71-year-old Swanzey man has been sentenced to 63 months in federal prison for possessing child pornography.

David Maclean, a former Arizona resident, was found to have images and videos of child pornography on electronic devices at his residence in Swanzey, which was searched in September 2017 by law enforcement officers.

The investigation began in July 2017 with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department Cyber Crimes Unit in Phoenix, Arizona. Maclean had previously pleaded guilty to the charges.

U.S. Attorney Scott W. Murray stated, “Protecting children is a high priority of the U.S. Attorney’s Office and our law enforcement partners. Child pornography crimes cause untold amounts of damage to their young victims. We will continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners to identify and prosecute those who possess, manufacture or distribute child pornography.”

Maclean was also ordered to pay restitution to the victims depicted in the images. The case was investigated by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and Homeland Security Investigations, and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Helen White Fitzgibbon.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the U.S. Attorney’s Offices to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. The project marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent in Charge Peter C. Fitzhugh stated, “This is a fitting sentence that can be taken as a warning to all who engage in this type of predatory behavior upon children, that they will be held accountable by law enforcement.”
