Jamie Frieri, Wire Fraud Conspiracy, Florida 2018

Tampa’s Jamie Frieri, a 49-year-old Mexican national with a nomadic lifestyle spanning Tampa, Orlando, and Miami, has copped to conspiracy to commit wire fraud. This slick operator is staring down up to 20 years in the clink for his role in a massive telemarketing scam that preyed on Spanish-speaking timeshare owners.

Frieri, according to the Department of Justice USAO, masterminded a scheme that bilked unsuspecting victims out of their hard-earned cash. From 2014 through at least 2018, he conspired with another identity thief to steal personal information from potential victims, often by illicitly obtaining lists from legitimate telemarketing companies advertising timeshare properties.

The cunning duo then hounded timeshare owners with fraudulent promises of eager buyers. They conned their targets into shelling out exorbitant fees for pseudo-similarities associated with the supposed sales, all under the guise of a fraudulent entity named Imperial Getaways. The cons were relentless, re-contacting victims repeatedly and justifying additional fees as necessary to finalize the deals.

Once the cash was in hand, Frieri’s crew absconded with it, leaving their prey poorer and more bewildered than ever. Only when the money ran out or victims caught on did the reality of the scam set in.

This case has been a collaborative effort by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, St. Petersburg Police Department, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, who have brought this ruthless operation to its knees. Assistant United States Attorney Rachel K. Jones is spearheading the prosecution of Frieri’s criminal activities.

Jamie Frieri’s plea agreement marks the end of a sordid chapter in Florida’s telemarketing fraud saga. His sentencing date remains pending, but one thing is clear: justice is on its way for those who fall prey to such unscrupulous tactics.
