Tampa Man Sentenced To 20 Years For Child Pornography
A 57-year-old Tampa man has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for his role in trading child pornography, officials announced Monday.
Richard Donald Ragsdale pleaded guilty to the charges on December 18, 2014, after an investigation by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
According to the complaint, on May 5, 2014, an undercover agent downloaded child pornography from an IP address connected to Ragsdale’s residence. Further investigation revealed online chats by Ragsdale, in which he admitted to having prior sexual contact with children and discussed the sexual abuse of children.
On June 24, 2014, a federal search warrant was executed at Ragsdale’s Tampa residence, where agents found hundreds of videos and images depicting child pornography on his laptop.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer L. Peresie as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
Ragsdale’s sentencing serves as a reminder of the severe consequences for those who seek to exploit and harm children. The investigation was a collaborative effort between federal, state, and local agencies, highlighting the importance of interagency cooperation in combating this heinous crime.
