Tawanda L. Moore, a 37-year-old resident of Braddock, Pennsylvania, has been convicted of converting Social Security benefits intended for her minor children to her own use, netting her a staggering $11,276 in illicit funds.
According to a federal court sentence, Moore has been ordered to serve three years of probation and four months of home detention, in addition to paying restitution to the Social Security Administration in the amount of $11,276.00.
U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton announced the sentencing, praising the Social Security Administration’s Office of Inspector General for its role in the investigation that led to Moore’s conviction.
Assistant United States Attorney Robert S. Cessar prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
United States District Judge Cathy Bissoon imposed the sentence on Moore, bringing an end to a case that highlighted the brazen nature of identity theft and the consequences that come with it.
