James Kerr Schlosser, Tax Evasion, Pennsylvania 2024

PHILADELPHIA – A Lancaster County man was charged with engaging in corrupt endeavors to impede the due administration of the Internal Revenue Code, and willfully failing to file federal income tax returns.

James Kerr Schlosser, 59, of Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania, was charged by Indictment with attempting to evade federal income taxes. According to the indictment, Schlosser, a manufacturer’s representative for companies that sold medical equipment and surgical devices to various health care providers, stopped filing federal income tax returns since 1995.

Schlosser allegedly declared himself to be a Sovereign Human Being, making himself not subject to federal income taxation, despite earning income. To conceal his income, he created and registered multiple foreign business trusts and corporate soles with the Nevada Secretary of State. Schlosser also entered into contracts with Nevada-based mailing forwarding services to forward his income to himself or other individuals who served as trustees for the foreign business trusts.

To further conceal his receipt of income, Schlosser deposited money into non-interest earning investment accounts at two investment companies. He also purchased gold coins from at least four coin dealers, which he then reconverted into cash through multiple purchases.

The case was investigated by Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigations and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Floyd J. Miller. Schlosser faces a substantial period of incarceration, a fine, and a special assessment if convicted.

An Indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The charges against Schlosser are a reminder of the importance of paying federal income taxes and the consequences of attempting to evade them.
