In a brazen heist, twin brothers Tayveon Majors and Jayveon Majors, both 18, of Indianapolis, were indicted on federal firearms charges for stealing 10 firearms from 500 Guns, a federally licensed firearms dealer in Speedway, Indiana.
The crime occurred on January 21, 2021, when Tayveon used a stolen vehicle to drive through the front of the building to gain access to the store. Video surveillance cameras captured images of Tayveon carrying firearms out of the store, which he then transported to his residence with his brother’s assistance.
A tip from the public led investigators to the brothers, who were identified as suspects and a search warrant was obtained for their residence. Federal agents and CGIC investigators recovered some of the stolen firearms and arrested the brothers just days after the theft.
The indictment charges Tayveon Majors and Jayveon Majors with theft of firearms, a crime that carries up to 10 years’ imprisonment if convicted.
The case is a prime example of the community’s cooperation with law enforcement in solving crimes. Chief Randal Taylor of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department praised the work of IMPD detectives, federal partners, and Acting US Attorney John E. Childress for their efforts in arresting the suspects and charging them in federal court.
The Office of the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana has committed to prosecuting serious firearms offenses, as outlined in their Strategic Plan. This prosecution is a demonstration of that commitment.
Tayveon Majors and Jayveon Majors are presumed innocent until proven otherwise in federal court. Assistant U.S. Attorney William L. McCoskey is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.
