Teenagers Sentenced for Armed Robberies
WASHINGTON – In a shocking turn of events, four teenagers from Washington D.C. have been sentenced to prison terms for a series of armed robberies and carjackings that took place in April 2015.
The defendants, Kraig Brown, 17, Dayquan Gore, 18, Deangelo Johnson, 16, and Davon Sullivan, 18, were part of a violent crew that targeted convenience stores and taxicab drivers throughout the District of Columbia and the surrounding areas.
The crimes, which included six robberies of 7-Eleven stores, the robbery of a restaurant in Northeast Washington, one armed carjacking in the District of Columbia and another in Temple Hills, Md., and two armed robberies of taxi drivers in the District of Columbia, left a trail of destruction and fear in its wake.
According to court documents, the defendants wore masks and similar clothing to conceal their identities and used stolen cars to commit their crimes. The investigation, which was led by the FBI’s Washington Field Office and the Metropolitan Police Department, resulted in a 24-count indictment being returned by a grand jury in June 2015.
All four defendants pleaded guilty in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia in September 2015 and were sentenced by the Honorable Anita Josey-Herring on February 26, 2016. Kraig Brown was sentenced to 12 years in prison, with two years suspended, on two counts of armed robbery, one count of robbery, and two counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle to facilitate a crime of violence.
Dayquan Gore was also sentenced to 12 years in prison, with two years suspended, on one count of armed robbery, two counts of robbery, and one count of unauthorized use of a vehicle to facilitate a crime of violence. Deangelo Johnson received an 8 ½-year prison term on two counts of armed robbery and two counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle to facilitate a crime of violence. Davon Sullivan was sentenced to seven years in prison, with three years suspended, on one count of armed robbery and one count of unauthorized use of a vehicle to facilitate a crime of violence.
At the sentencing hearing, Judge Josey-Herring heard tearful statements from the victims, including one who had suffered post-traumatic stress after being held up by the defendants. She stated that the defendants either lacked ’empathy’ or were ‘desperate or greedy.’ Ultimately, she declared, they were ‘victims of their own foolishness and bravado.’
