GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: A shockwave has hit Tenino, Washington, as James Donald Mobley, a 46-year-old elementary school teacher at Tenino Elementary School, faces charges of possession of child pornography. The grim revelation came from U.S. Attorney Jenny A. Durkan, who announced the arrest of Mobley following a joint investigation by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Tenino Police Department.
Mobley, an active volunteer in Boy Scouts and private tutor, was nabbed on a criminal complaint charging him with receipt and possession of child pornography. Parents and community members are on edge as they grapple with the implications of Mobley’s alleged actions, which have been under investigation since May 2011.
Records indicate that Mobley had purchased suspected child pornography from an international company known for distributing such material through mail and digital downloads. The company was targeted by foreign law enforcement in May 2011, leading to the seizure of hundreds of DVDs and business records. An analysis of those records linked Mobley to purchases between February 2009 and January 2011.
In a search of his home, authorities uncovered a computer hard drive and additional child pornography DVDs. Mobley is currently detained at the Federal Detention Center in SeaTac, Washington, awaiting a detention hearing on Tuesday, January 22, 2013. The charges are merely allegations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case is being investigated by both the Tenino Police Department and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), with Assistant United States Attorney Marci Ellsworth handling the prosecution.
For any parents concerned about their children’s interactions with Mobley, the Tenino Police Department can be reached at 360-264-2626.
