Terreall McDaniel, Cocaine Trafficking, Missouri 2018

A Lee’s Summit man with a long history of violent crime has been handed a 51-year sentence in federal prison for his role in a major cocaine trafficking operation in Missouri.

Terreall McDaniel, 33, was found guilty of two counts of possessing cocaine with the intent to distribute, two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and two counts of possessing a firearm in relation to a drug-trafficking crime.

The sentencing hearing took place on February 28, 2018, in front of U.S. District Judge Roseann Ketchmark. McDaniel’s prior felony convictions, which included distributing a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and tampering, played a significant role in the length of his sentence.

McDaniel led a Raytown police officer on a high-speed pursuit in June 2015, which ended when the vehicle crashed in a wooded area. During a subsequent search, officers located a large amount of marijuana, 10 individually wrapped bags of cocaine, 11 individually wrapped bags of pills containing methamphetamine, a digital scale, a grinder, and a loaded firearm.

McDaniel’s troubles with the law date back to December 2014, when he was pulled over by a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper for a vehicle stop. McDaniel was found in possession of marijuana, 22 individually wrapped bags of cocaine, and a loaded firearm hidden under the driver’s seat.

McDaniel’s sentence was handed down by Judge Ketchmark as an armed career criminal, citing his prior convictions and the severity of the crimes.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Alison D. Dunning and Emily A. Morgan. It was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Raytown Police Department, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

McDaniel’s history of violent crime and his involvement in the cocaine trafficking operation have left many in the community shaken. The 51-year sentence is seen as a necessary step towards keeping the community safe.
