Tevin Marcelin, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Louisiana 2024

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – In a seven-count superseding indictment, Tevin Marcelin, 29, and Derrick Doughty, 32, both from New Orleans, were charged with federal firearm and drug offenses.

According to the indictment, Marcelin and Doughty are charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, marijuana, and cocaine, in violation of 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) and (b)(1)(C). If convicted of Count 1, Marcelin and Doughty face up to 20 years imprisonment, up to a $1,000,000 fine, and at least three years of supervised release.

In Count 2, Marcelin and Doughty are charged with possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 924(c)(1)(A). If convicted of Count 2, Marcelin and Doughty face a mandatory minimum sentence of five years up to life imprisonment, to run consecutively to all other sentences, up to a $250,000 fine, and up to five years of supervised release.

U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced the indictment, stating that the charge is merely an accusation, and the guilt of the defendants must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the New Orleans Police Department, and the Louisiana State Police.

Assistant United States Attorney Sarah Dawkins of the Violent Crimes Unit is in charge of the prosecution. Marcelin and Doughty also face payment of a $100 mandatory special assessment fee for each charged count.

The indictment highlights the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and gun violence in New Orleans. The outcome of the case is pending, and the defendants will be brought to justice if proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
