
A Texas man has been brought to justice for bringing a massive amount of cocaine into the Memphis area. Tellerick Simon, 34, pleaded guilty to federal charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than 5 kilograms of cocaine and possession of more than 5 kilograms of cocaine with intent to distribute.
U.S. Attorney D. Michael Dunavant for the Western District of Tennessee announced the guilty plea today. The charges against Simon stem from a traffic stop conducted by the West Tennessee Drug Task Force on September 25, 2017, on eastbound I-40. A search of the vehicle revealed over 50 pounds of cocaine, which was being transported from Houston, Texas to Knoxville.
A thorough investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration offices in Memphis, Tennessee; as well as Houston and Brownsville, Texas revealed Simon as one of the key participants in trafficking the cocaine. On June 13, 2018, Simon pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
Simon faces a mandatory minimum sentence of at least 10 years up to life imprisonment. He will be sentenced on September 17, 2018 before U.S. District Judge Sheryl H. Lipman.
The West Tennessee Drug Task Force, an extension of the Shelby County District Attorney General’s Office, and the Drug Enforcement Administration investigated this case. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Griffith is prosecuting this case on the government’s behalf.
