Tampa, FL – A brazen cocaine trafficking operation in Tampa has been brought to a grinding halt after a Texas man pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and possession with intent to distribute controlled substances.
Julio Deleon, a 38-year-old from Brownsville, Texas, faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 5 years, up to 40 years, in federal prison after entering a guilty plea in court.
Deleon’s downfall began on January 25, 2024, when officers from the Bradenton Police Department attempted to stop the vehicle he was riding in. As the vehicle came to a stop, Deleon attempted to flee, but he was quickly apprehended by law enforcement.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers discovered a backpack containing just under five kilograms of cocaine, which was situated on the floor by the front passenger seat where Deleon had been sitting.
The investigation into Deleon’s cocaine trafficking operation was a joint effort between Homeland Security Investigations and the Bradenton Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Michael R. Kenneth.
Deleon is scheduled to be sentenced on January 9, 2024, and will undoubtedly face a lengthy prison term for his role in the cocaine trafficking ring.
The conviction of Julio Deleon serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by cocaine traffickers in our communities. As our investigation continues, we will work tirelessly to bring those responsible for this type of organized crime to justice.
