Grimy Times has learned that a Houston woman has pleaded guilty to conspiring to stage automobile accidents to defraud insurance and trucking companies.
Genetta Isreal, 53, of Houston, Texas, pled guilty today to Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 371, arising out of staged automobile accidents with tractor-trailers occurring in New Orleans.
According to court documents, Isreal was one of 33 defendants charged in connection with a scheme to stage automobile accidents and collect money through fraudulent means. So far, 26 of the indicted defendants have tendered guilty pleas in federal court.
The scheme involved planning and executing staged accidents with tractor-trailers on Chef Menteur Highway near the Danziger Bridge in New Orleans. One such incident occurred on June 12, 2017, when a Chevrolet Trailblazer collided with a 2015 Peterbilt tractor-trailer.
Isreal and others involved in the scheme were treated by doctors and healthcare providers at the direction of Attorney A, who then filed a lawsuit in Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans seeking approximately $116,155.00 in settlements.
Isreal faces a maximum sentence of five years imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $250,000 or the greater of twice the gross gain to the defendant or twice the gross loss to any person under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3571, up to three years of supervised release, and a mandatory $100.00 special assessment fee.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office would like to acknowledge the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Louisiana State Police, and the Metropolitan Crime Commission with this matter.
Sentencing for Isreal will occur before U.S. District Judge Eldon E. Fallon on November 4, 2021.
