TRENTON, NJ – A Trenton man has been sentenced to 84 months in prison for his role in a Trenton-based heroin trafficking organization.
Thomas Rogers, 23, previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin. Rogers admitted to possessing at least one firearm during the conspiracy, according to documents filed in the case and statements made in court.
Between June 2015 and December 2016, Rogers and others operated a heroin trafficking organization in the Spring and Passaic Streets area of Trenton. Law enforcement learned that Ishmael Abdullah, the leader of the Abdullah DTO, was responsible for obtaining significant quantities of heroin from multiple suppliers, including Jose Joaquin Torres-Mezquita and Ileana Sanchez.
The Abdullah DTO used temporary prepaid phones, stash houses, and cars to avoid detection by law enforcement, and members maintained joint access to multiple firearms in connection with their narcotics conspiracy, according to the documents.
Rogers was also sentenced to five years of supervised release. Acting U.S. Attorney William E. Fitzpatrick credited the Greater Trenton Safe Streets Task Force, including agents from the FBI and ATF, for their investigation.
Assistant U.S. Attorney J. Brendan Day represented the government in the case. Defense counsel for Rogers was David R. Oakley Esq. of Princeton.
Abdullah and six other defendants have pleaded guilty in connection with the case. The remaining defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
