Newark Man Admits Distributing Heroin and Oxycodone
Lamont Vaughn, a 33-year-old Newark man, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute heroin and oxycodone in downtown Newark. Vaughn, also known as ‘Mont’ and ‘True V,’ admitted to selling large quantities of the drugs out of a clothing store called Ballas Boutique.
According to documents filed in the case, Vaughn conspired with others to distribute heroin and oxycodone between August 2012 and August 7, 2013. Over the course of the conspiracy, Vaughn and his associates sold drugs to a confidential source more than 35 times, with the majority of the sales being audio and video recorded.
Law enforcement intercepted conversations between Vaughn and his conspirators, revealing that he had multiple employees selling drugs for him at Ballas Boutique and multiple sources of supply for heroin and oxycodone.
On August 7, 2013, law enforcement officers executed arrest and search warrants at Ballas Boutique and Vaughn’s home in Newark, recovering dozens of oxycodone pills, two firearms, and a large amount of cash from Vaughn’s bedroom.
Under the terms of his plea agreement, Vaughn will be sentenced to 65 months in prison and up to five years of supervised release. Sentencing is scheduled for October 5, 2016.
U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman credited the FBI and the New Jersey State Police Street Gangs North Unit with the investigation leading to the charges. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Margaret Ann Mahoney and Francisco J. Navarro represented the government in the case.
Lamont Vaughn will represent himself in court, with no defense counsel listed in the case.
