TYLER, Texas – The Eastern District of Texas has seen justice served as three Anderson County residents were sentenced to federal prison for their roles in a methamphetamine trafficking ring. Brandon Thomas Maciel, 26, Valerie Lynn Doyle, 24, and Jeremy Bice, 35, pleaded guilty to possession of pseudoephedrine with intent to manufacture methamphetamine. U.S. District Judge Leonard E. Davis handed down sentences of 87 months for Maciel, 70 months for Doyle, and 37 months for Bice.
The crime spree began in 2010 when Bice purchased pseudoephedrine-laden cold pills from a Wal-Mart in Palestine, Texas. Maciel followed suit at the same location, while Doyle made her purchase at a nearby Walgreens store. Both Maciel and Doyle admitted to multiple purchases of the illicit substance over time.
Maciel further confessed to buying cold pills on other occasions, including two separate buys from a CVS store and another at Wal-Mart in Palestine. The purchased pseudoephedrine was intended for use in the manufacture of methamphetamine.
On April 11, 2012, federal charges were filed against Maciel, Doyle, and Bice for their drug crimes. Craig Lee Bice, an additional co-defendant, has also pleaded guilty to similar charges and awaits sentencing.
This case was brought to justice through the collaborative efforts of the Texas Department of Public Safety and Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Ann Cozby.
The grim reality of drug trafficking in Texas is once again highlighted by these convictions, underscoring the ongoing battle against methamphetamine manufacturing and distribution across the state.
