Tampa, FL – In a grim milestone for law enforcement, Andrew Newburg, 41-year-old resident of Tierra Verde, Florida, was today sentenced to ten years in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Thomas Barber. The sentence is accompanied by a lifetime of supervised release and mandatory sex offender registration. This came after Newburg pleaded guilty on April 29, 2025, to charges of distributing child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
Court documents reveal that Newburg propagated videos of CSAM through a social media app in February 2020 and again in October 2022. He also possessed significant amounts of CSAM within his online profile. The case was an exercise of the full force of law enforcement, with the Tampa Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation leading the investigation.
Assistant United States Attorney Ilyssa M. Spergel prosecuted the case, which is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. Launched by the DOJ in 2006, Project Safe Childhood coordinates federal, state, and local resources to protect children from predators like Newburg.
“This sentence sends a clear message that we will not tolerate those who prey on our most vulnerable citizens,” said U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida. “The Tampa Police Department and FBI have done an exemplary job in this case, and I am proud to see them bring justice to the victims.”
Newburg\’s actions are a stark reminder of the ongoing threat that cyber predators pose to children. Project Safe Childhood has been instrumental in identifying and apprehending such individuals, as well as providing support to victims.
