Timothy Britton, the owner and operator of rental properties in the Falls Creek, Pennsylvania, area, has been sued by the Justice Department for allegedly sexually harassing female tenants.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, alleges that Britton made repeated and unwelcome sexual comments to female tenants, touched female tenants’ bodies without their permission, requested sexual contact, offered reduced or free rent in exchange for sexual contact and took retaliatory actions against female tenants who refused his sexual advances.

Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Civil Rights Division said, ‘In this day and age, no one should have to endure sexual harassment to keep a roof over their head.’

Acting U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti for the Western District of Pennsylvania said, ‘The complaint alleges that Mr. Britton has violated federal fair housing laws through acts of sexual harassment and retaliation.’

Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Demetria L. McCain of the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity said, ‘It is unacceptable and illegal to subject tenants to sexual harassment and retaliation; it must stop.’

The lawsuit seeks monetary damages to compensate persons harmed by the alleged harassment, civil penalties to vindicate the public interest and a court order barring future discrimination.
