BOISE – Tobias Leary, 44, of Caldwell, has been slammed with an 188-month federal prison sentence for distributing methamphetamine and unlawfully possessing a firearm, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Justin Whatcott.
In what the court deemed a dangerous combination of drugs, guns, and gangs, Leary’s property was raided by the Treasure Valley Metro Violent Crime Task Force (METRO) in July 2024. The operation resulted in the seizure of meth, fentanyl, and multiple firearms, said U.S. District Judge Amanda K. Brailsford.
‘For twenty years, the Metro Task Force has successfully dismantled gangs, removing dangerous criminals from our streets,’ Whatcott commented. ‘This sentence is a testament to their dedication to protecting Treasure Valley from gang violence and drug trafficking.’
Special Agent in Charge Mehtab Syed of the Salt Lake City FBI emphasized the deadly consequences when illegal elements intertwine. ‘Leary’s sentence reflects the success achieved through law enforcement collaboration,’ he said.
The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Kelsey A. Manweiler, representing the Treasure Valley Metro Violent Crimes Task Force, a coalition of federal, state, and local agencies dedicated to crime reduction in the region.
This sentence comes as part of an ongoing effort by the Treasure Valley Partnership, a group of southwest Idaho officials committed to regional coordination on law enforcement. For more information, visit www.treasurevalleypartners.org.
