BOISE – Luis Leyva Verduzco, a 32-year-old Mexican national from Jerome, has been sentenced to 82 months in federal prison for possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.
Court records reveal that law enforcement began investigating Verduzco in early 2020, following intelligence indicating his involvement in meth distribution in the Magic Valley. The investigation led to a significant discovery when officers monitored Verduzco as he visited a dairy farm’s milk house in Gooding County. Inside, they found 1,308.61 grams of meth and 46.64 grams of fentanyl hidden in a filing cabinet drawer.
Verduzco was observed entering the milk house, then returning to his vehicle after a brief stay. He attempted to conceal the drugs before law enforcement discovered them. Upon completing his sentence, Verduzco is expected to be deported back to Mexico.
The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Idaho State Police, Gooding County Sheriff’s Office, Jerome County Sheriff’s Office, Gooding County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Acting U.S. Attorney Rafael M. Gonzalez, Jr., of the District of Idaho, announced the sentencing and commended the agencies involved.
This prosecution is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation, which aims to dismantle high-level drug traffickers and transnational criminal organizations threatening the United States.
