Convicted Methamphetamine Dealer Faces Mandatory 15-Year Sentence

A notorious methamphetamine dealer in Sioux City, Iowa, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute the highly addictive substance.

Todd Babb, 62, entered a guilty plea in federal court on November 19, 2025, to charges related to the distribution of over 1500 grams of methamphetamine in the Sioux City area between 2018 and August 2024.

According to evidence presented at the plea hearing, Babb had previously been convicted of two prior felony drug offenses, one in Iowa District Court and another in Federal Court. The defendant admitted to conspiring with others to distribute the illicit substance, which led to a massive crackdown by law enforcement.

During a search of Babb’s residence, authorities seized over $3,000 and a quarter pound of methamphetamine, which Babb intended to distribute to others. Additionally, approximately one pound of methamphetamine was found in a vehicle outside his residence.

Babb, who remains in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing, faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment. He also faces a $20,000,000 fine and at least ten years of supervised release following any imprisonment.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde and was investigated by the Tri-State Drug Task Force, a multi-agency task force based in Sioux City, Iowa. The task force consists of law enforcement personnel from various agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration; Sioux City, Iowa, Police Department; Homeland Security Investigations; Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office; South Sioux City, Nebraska, Police Department; Nebraska State Patrol; Iowa National Guard; Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement; United States Marshals Service; South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation; and Woodbury County Attorney’s Office.
