Todd Wade Powers, Illegal Firearm Possession, Florida 2024

Fourteen-time convicted felon Todd Wade Powers has been handed a 15-year federal prison sentence for illegal possession of a firearm, marking the latest blow to gun violence in Jacksonville.

Powers, 38, from Middleburg, pleaded guilty in April 2025, following his arrest on April 30, 2024. Detectives with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office had been dispatched to a gas station after receiving a report of suspicious activity.

Upon arrival, they found Powers’ car parked with a stolen license plate, an open backpack containing a firearm and cocaine. A subsequent search revealed additional drugs, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, and marijuana, as well as two loaded firearms.

The investigation led to Powers admitting ownership of the contraband. His criminal history includes three counts of possession of controlled substances, seven counts of sale or delivery of controlled substances, dealing in stolen property, and false verification of ownership on a pawnbroker transaction form. Powers is prohibited from possessing firearms under federal law.

Investigation of this case was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, with prosecution handled by Assistant United States Attorney Elisibeth Adams. The sentence comes as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program dedicated to reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer.

Launched in May 2011, PSN strengthens community trust and focuses enforcement on strategic priorities to measure results effectively.
