Toddler’s Killer Gets 46 Months for Gun Charge
A St. Louis man has been sentenced to 46 months in prison for a federal gun charge in connection to a toddler’s death. Horatio T. Harris was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Ronnie L. White for possessing a firearm during a domestic dispute.
According to court documents, on September 4, 2020, a crowd of 15 to 20 people gathered outside a boarding house where Harris lived. Harris’ stepdaughter and others in the crowd wanted to confront him about the death of her two-year-old son. Harris retrieved a .38 caliber Colt Army Special revolver from his room and answered the door with the gun in hand.
Harris argued with his stepdaughters, who later fled in fear from Harris. Harris admitted knowing he was a convicted felon and that he was prohibited from possessing the firearm. Harris pleaded guilty in February to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The case is connected to a pending second-degree murder charge and three counts of child abuse in St. Louis Circuit Court related to the death of the two-year-old and the alleged abuse of that boy and his twin brother. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police investigated the case and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Zachary Bluestone.
Harris fled St. Louis after being indicted and was eventually located by the United States Marshals in Louisville, Kentucky. Harris’ sentence was handed down on Wednesday by Judge White.
The case highlights the importance of gun control laws and the need to hold individuals accountable for their actions. Harris’ sentencing serves as a reminder that possessing a firearm as a convicted felon is a serious offense.
The St. Louis community is still reeling from the loss of the two-year-old boy, and this sentencing brings some sense of justice to the family and loved ones.
