Tomas Hermosillo Marquez, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Minnesota 2013
A 37-year-old Cold Spring man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.
On April 30, 2013, United States District Court Chief Judge Michael J. Davis handed down the sentence to Tomas Hermosillo Marquez, who pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and one count of possession of a firearm by an illegal alien.
The charges stem from a search warrant executed by police at Marquez’s trailer house in Cold Spring on September 21, 2012. During the search, officers found approximately 900 grams of methamphetamine, a .22-caliber revolver, ammunition, a digital scale, packaging materials, and $4,615 in cash.
In his plea agreement, Marquez acknowledged that he had intended to distribute the methamphetamine to another person and that he possessed the gun in connection to his drug trafficking activities. He also admitted to being an illegal alien.
The case was the result of an investigation by the Central Minnesota Violent Offender Task Force and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas M. Hollenhorst.
Marquez’s sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in drug trafficking activities. The sale and distribution of methamphetamine can have devastating effects on individuals and communities.
