PHOENIX – Roscoe Peter Begay, a 37-year-old Tonalea man and member of the Navajo Nation, has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for kidnapping. Begay’s sentence includes a subsequent five years of supervised release.
Begay pleaded guilty to the crime following an incident on February 7, 2017, when he responded to a domestic violence call at his residence by locking himself inside with the victim and refusing entry to law enforcement until a Special Response Team was involved.
The investigation into Begay’s actions was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in partnership with the Navajo Nation Department of Law Enforcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christina J. Reid-Moore prosecuted the case on behalf of the District of Arizona.
