A Brockton man is behind bars after pleading guilty to his role in a massive South Shore drug distribution ring.
Tony Goncalves, 24, was sentenced to 30 months in prison and three years of supervised release by U.S. District Court Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton on June 15, 2022.
Goncalves pleaded guilty in October 2021 to conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute heroin, fentanyl, cocaine, cocaine base, oxycodone and marijuana, as well as possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, cocaine, cocaine base and marijuana.
The investigation into the violent Brockton drug conspiracy, led by Goncalves’ uncle Djuna Goncalves, revealed that he worked with his brothers Tony and Cody Goncalves to distribute large quantities of illicit substances throughout southeastern Massachusetts.
The neighborhood surrounding the Goncalves’ family home in Brockton has been plagued by numerous murders, shootings, and other crimes of violence for several years.
The investigation, conducted by a multi-agency task force through the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), resulted in the seizure of marijuana, packaging materials, scales, a kilo press, fentanyl, firearms, and ammunition, as well as documents in the Goncalves’ names.
In total, 17 defendants, including Tony, Djuna, and Cody Goncalves, were indicted as part of the wide-ranging drug trafficking conspiracy, with 15 now sentenced. Djuna and Cody Goncalves are scheduled to be sentenced on June 30, 2022 and June 21, 2022, respectively.
United States Attorney Rachael S. Rollins and other officials announced the sentencing, which was the result of a joint effort by federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
