Leaders of the Detroit branch of the Rollin’ 60s Crips are facing severe penalties after pleading guilty to a litany of racketeering and firearms offenses. Jerome Hamilton, the gang’s top leader, along with Roderek Perry, have admitted their roles in gang-related murders, shootings, and drug distribution.
The plea agreements call for sentences ranging from 30 to 35 years in prison for both men. The guilty pleas are a testament to the collaborative efforts of law enforcement and community engagement under the Detroit One program, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Daniel L. Lemisch.
Hamilton, aged 24 and from Southfield, was directly involved in the August 8, 2011, drive-by shooting that resulted in the death of Kionte Atkins, as well as drug distribution activities within the gang.
Perry, 22, of Detroit, confessed to participating in the same drive-by shooting and inadvertently causing the death of a fellow gang member during an attempted robbery. He also sold narcotics to fund gang operations.
ATF Special Agent in Charge Robin Shoemaker emphasized the resolve to protect neighborhoods from violent street gangs, stating that violence in communities will not be tolerated. FBI Special Agent in Charge David P. Gelios echoed these sentiments, reinforcing that law enforcement will continue to pursue gang members.
This investigation has seen eleven members of the Rollin’ 60s Crips plead guilty for various crimes, including carjackings, armed robberies, and distributing narcotics on behalf of the gang.
