Jorge Alberto Torres Jr., Child Pornography Production, Minnesota 2024

FERGUS FALLS, Minn. – Jorge Alberto Torres Jr., 52, of Crookston, will spend more than 21 years behind bars after being sentenced yesterday for the horrific production of child pornography. U.S. Attorney Andrew M. Luger announced the 262-month prison sentence, followed by 20 years of supervised release, a punishment reflecting the depravity of Torres’s crimes.

The case unraveled after the minor victim bravely came forward, reporting years of sexual abuse to school officials and the Crookston Police Department. According to court documents, Torres didn’t just abuse the child; he systematically coerced and threatened the victim into submission. The predator then escalated his crimes by installing a hidden video camera in a bathroom used by the minor and others, turning a private space into a tool for exploitation.

Law enforcement moved swiftly following the report, arresting Torres the very next day. In a desperate attempt to cover his tracks, Torres attempted to enlist a family member to destroy crucial evidence – his Android cell phone and the concealed camera. But the effort failed. Investigators secured a search warrant and discovered a trove of sickening images and videos on the phone, documenting Torres’s abuse of the victim, along with additional child pornography.

Torres pleaded guilty on December 20, 2023, to one count of production of child pornography, but admitted to further, uncharged acts of creating such material. Judge Katherine M. Menendez delivered the sentence in U.S. District Court, acknowledging the profound and lasting trauma inflicted upon the victim. This isn’t simply about images; it’s about a stolen childhood and a lifetime of pain.

The investigation, a collaborative effort between the Crookston Police Department and the FBI’s Minneapolis Crimes Against Children Task Force, highlights the critical importance of vigilance and rapid response in these cases. The Task Force continues to work tirelessly to identify and dismantle networks involved in the creation and distribution of child sexual abuse material. This conviction sends a clear message: predators will be hunted and held accountable.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Benjamin Bejar and Emily A. Polachek spearheaded the prosecution. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on efforts to protect vulnerable children.
