PORTLAND, Ore. — Travis Jay Grygla, a 44-year-old Portland resident, has been sentenced to federal prison for his role in the distribution of child pornography and the theft of government property. Grygla received a sentence of 262 months, followed by life on supervised release, and was ordered to pay $27,551.79 in restitution to the United States Government.
According to court documents, Grygla, who had previously been registered as a sex offender following a 2008 conviction for distributing child pornography, stored and shared explicit material at his residence with another registered sex offender. In April 2024, Homeland Security Investigations discovered this disturbing activity, leading to a search warrant executed at Grygla’s residence.
During the search, Grygla not only attempted to evade law enforcement but also stole a government vehicle and fled the scene at high speed. He was later apprehended in Castle Rock, Washington, after a high-speed chase by law enforcement officials.
Grygla faced charges for possessing or accessing child pornography with intent to view, and on June 2, 2025, he pleaded guilty to distributing child pornography and theft of government property. The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, Portland Police Bureau, Vancouver Police Department, Washington State Patrol, and Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office.
