Seattle – The grim halls of justice echo with the chilling charge against Marc David McCool, a 56-year-old man from Portland, Oregon. He stands accused by a federal grand jury for attempting to entice minors and traveling with intent to engage in sexual acts with children, announced U.S. Attorney Tessa M. Gorman.
McCool’s alleged odyssey of perversion began when he responded to a social media ad posted by an undercover agent. Over the span of six weeks, during ‘chats’ via Kik Messenger App, McCool revealed his dark desires and boasting of past sexual abuse. His ultimate goal was to meet and sexually abuse two young children, aged 7 and 11, authorities claim.
On May 16, 2024, McCool’s dark journey led him to a Seattle-area hotel, where he was apprehended. He arrived with items indicative of his sinister intentions: condoms, baby oil, rope, and stuffed animals designed to entice the innocence of the young victims. The arrest came after a harrowing journey by train and rideshare service.
The severity of McCool’s crimes is underscored by the penalties he faces if convicted: at least 10 years to lifetime imprisonment for attempted enticement of a minor, and up to 30 years for traveling with intent to engage in sexual acts with a minor. The case is part of a larger investigation led by Homeland Security Investigations, working in tandem with the Seattle Police Department’s Internet Crimes against Children Task Force (ICAC).
Assistant United States Attorney Cecelia Gregson will be prosecuting this harrowing case under the U.S. v McCool 24-cr-00102 file number. As always, the charges are mere allegations; the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
