Auburn Man Charged for Gun, Drug Stash
Andy Peter Vongdala, 33, of Auburn, Washington, has been charged federally for his alleged role in a series of crimes that netted a massive haul of guns, ammo, and controlled substances. According to a federal criminal complaint, Vongdala was taken into custody after police served a search warrant on his residence.
The Renton Police Department, with the assistance of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF), had been investigating Vongdala in connection with a string of commercial burglaries in the area. During the search of Vongdala’s two-bedroom apartment, police discovered a stolen Glock firearm and more than two kilograms of MDMA in a backpack he was carrying.
A search of the residence revealed an additional firearm and firearm parts, as well as ammunition and body armor. In Vongdala’s bedroom, police recovered 61 kilograms of MDMA, over 2,300 fentanyl pills, nearly a kilogram of methamphetamine, and smaller amounts of suspected heroin, cocaine, and alprazolam.
The seized items also included a rifle with a casing catcher, numerous firearm magazines, and suspected armor-piercing bullets. Vongdala faces two counts of possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
The charges carry significant penalties, including a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison for the controlled substances charges. The firearm charge carries an additional five years in prison, which will run consecutively to any other sentence imposed in the case.
Vongdala’s case is being investigated by the Renton Police Department and the ATF. Assistant United States Attorney Celia Lee is prosecuting the case. Vongdala is currently being detained pending additional hearings.
The charges in the complaint are only allegations, and Vongdala is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
The investigation into Vongdala’s alleged crimes is ongoing, and it’s unclear what other charges may be filed in the case.
