Tre Robert Allen Ackerson Sentenced to 600 Months for Murder of Osage Nation Woman
Tulsa, OK – In a landmark case, Tre Robert Allen Ackerson, 30, of Webb City, Missouri, was sentenced to 600 months of imprisonment for the kidnapping and murder of Jolene Walker Campbell, an Osage Nation citizen. U.S. District Judge Gregory K. Frizzell handed down the sentence on March 29, 2024.
The brutal murder took place in July 2020, when Ackerson and his accomplices kidnapped and violently murdered Campbell. The victim’s body was discovered in a remote field in Mayes County, Oklahoma. The investigation revealed that Campbell was robbed and kidnapped in Missouri before being driven into Oklahoma, where she was murdered by Ackerson.
Ackerson’s crime spree did not stop at Campbell’s murder. He and his accomplices used physical force or threatened the use of physical force against four witnesses in separate incidents. These witnesses were subjected to violent acts, including being kidnapped, restrained with zip ties, blindfolded, or having their eyes duct-taped shut, shot at, and beaten. These acts were committed to prevent the witnesses from testifying or as retaliation for communicating with law enforcement about Campbell’s murder.
The investigation was a joint effort between the FBI, Mayes County Sheriff’s Office, Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police Department, and the Joplin Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Justin Brooks and Matthew Podila prosecuted the case.
U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson expressed his hope that the family of Ms. Campbell can find some measure of healing knowing that the person responsible for her murder will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars. Johnson also reiterated the Justice Department’s commitment to seeking justice on behalf of missing and murdered Indigenous people.
