Trevor John, Opioid Distribution, Florida 2018
Orlando, Florida – In a significant blow to the opioid epidemic ravaging communities across the state, a notorious opioid distribution ring leader has been handed a hefty prison sentence. Trevor John, a 39-year-old resident of Palm Bay, Florida, has been sentenced to 15 years and 8 months in federal prison for leading a large-scale opioid distribution ring in Cocoa, Florida.
According to court documents, John pleaded guilty on February 28, 2019, to conspiracy to distribute oxycodone, hydromorphone, and heroin. The investigation, which spanned from May 2017 to September 2018, uncovered a staggering amount of evidence, including over a dozen undercover purchases of opioid pills and hundreds of intercepted communications between John and other members of the conspiracy.
Law enforcement agencies, including the DEA, Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and several local police departments, worked tirelessly to dismantle the ring, making a significant impact on the opioid crisis in the region.
“Confronting violent drug trafficking organizations that are distributing fentanyl, diverted pharmaceuticals, and the heroin that is fueling our region’s overdose epidemic is a top priority for the DEA and its law enforcement partners in this investigation,” stated Marcus R. Anderson, Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Orlando’s District Office.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Tactical Diversion Squad and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from several local law enforcement agencies. Assistant United States Attorney Nathan W. Hill is prosecuting the case.
John’s sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of opioid addiction and the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to combat the opioid crisis. As the region continues to grapple with the aftermath of the epidemic, this case serves as a beacon of hope for those affected by the crisis.
