Robert J. Seifert, Sexual Assault, New York 2024

ALBANY, NEW YORK – Robert J. Seifert, Jr., a 65-year-old resident of Troy, New York, has been slapped with serious charges after an alleged incident at the Albany Stratton Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC).

The grim allegations claim that Seifert grabbed the breast and groin of a paramedic while on duty at the VAMC. The United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Christopher Algieri, Special Agent in Charge for the Northeast Field Office of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General, broke the news.

It’s crucial to note that the charges are merely accusations, with Seifert maintaining his innocence until proven guilty. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of two years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a supervised release term up to one year.

Seifert appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Christian F. Hummel on April 9, 2024, following a criminal complaint. He has conditionally waived his right to a detention hearing, remaining detained while awaiting further legal proceedings.

The case is being aggressively investigated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General and the Veterans Affairs Police Service at the Albany VAMC. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua R. Rosenthal is handling the prosecution.

This unsettling incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance and security within healthcare facilities, especially those catering to veterans in need of care and support.
