A Neshoba County man will spend 34 months behind bars for his role in a methamphetamine distribution operation in the Pearl River Community of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.
Marcus Tubby, Jr., 31, of Pearl River, was sentenced to 34 months in federal prison for possessing over 50 grams of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, announced U.S. Attorney Todd W. Gee of the Southern District of Mississippi.
Tubby was indicted by a federal grand jury in September 2023 and pleaded guilty on February 7, 2024, to the charges. The case was investigated by the Choctaw Police Department of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, the U.S. Department of Interior Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
‘This sentence sends a clear message that we will not tolerate the distribution of deadly methamphetamine in our communities,’ said U.S. Attorney Gee. ‘We will continue to work tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice.’
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin J. Payne and Assistant United States Attorney Brian K. Burns.
Tubby’s conviction is a victory for the people of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and the surrounding communities who have been affected by the scourge of methamphetamine,’ said Regional Agent in Charge Whitney Woodruff of the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
The Choctaw Police Department, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Drug Enforcement Administration all played key roles in the investigation that led to Tubby’s conviction. The collaboration between these agencies is a testament to their commitment to keeping our communities safe.
Tubby’s sentence is a reminder that those who choose to engage in the distribution of methamphetamine will face serious consequences,’ said Assistant Special Agent in Charge Anessa Daniels-McCaw of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
