34-year-old punchy headline naming defendant/crime under 70 chars PISETH P. MAM unloaded a firearm into the crowded parking lot of Ridge Springs Apartments in Tukwila, WA, narrowly avoiding disaster. Today, in U.S. District Court in Seattle, MAM faced the music for his reckless act, receiving a ten-year sentence from Chief U.S. District Judge Marsha J. Pechman.

MAM’s history is steeped in violence and illegality. A convicted felon with previous convictions for domestic violence assault (2004), burglary (2004), and possession of an assault weapon (2007), MAM has been a known entity to law enforcement agencies in Washington and California.

The shooting incident occurred on August 12, 2012, when MAM’s white Honda was seen firing shots into the parking lot at Ridge Springs Apartments. The reckless act left many adults and children in the vicinity at risk of injury. No one was injured, but the terror caused by the gunman was palpable.

Days after the shooting, MAM was arrested at the Emerald Queen Casino with his car impounded in the parking garage. Inside the vehicle, investigators discovered a stolen 9mm Beretta Pistol and numerous pieces of stolen mail. The investigation revealed that MAM had used a credit card from the stolen mail to make unauthorized purchases at Home Depot.

U.S. Attorney Jenny A. Durkan emphasized the severity of MAM’s crime in her statement, saying, “Anyone who would fire (a handgun) into a car in a crowded parking lot over a perceived slight is a dangerous person.”

The Tukwila Police Department, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) collaborated to investigate the case. Special Assistant United States Attorney Stephen Hobbs prosecuted MAM under federal gun laws, ensuring that justice was served.
